Isotope Breakdown: The patient swallows labeled urea (commonly carbon-14), which active bacteria break down into ammonia and labeled carbon dioxide.
Breath Collection: The exhaled carbon dioxide is captured using a specialized breath collection card until an indicator window changes color.
Analysis: Inserting the card into the detector automatically processes the sample and prints the result.
